+ Our mission statement

To love and look out for each other, and those around us, living out the Gospel message of the love of God for all people

To be a place of welcome, encouraging others to join us in our journey of faith

To be a church of sacramental worship, growing in faith and fellowship

To grow in confidence in the mystery of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit

To be excellent stewards of our resources, and our environment, maximising the gifts God has given to us

To give generously from our parish income to charities or others in need

To support Christ Church school, in prayer and action

+ Our ministry team

John Ackland, vicar.

Prior to being a parish priest, John spent much of his career working for British Airways. He mainly worked in human resources but has many stories to tell from having been an air steward for Concorde! He is also a canon of Southwark cathedral.

Alan Dupuy, assistant priest

Fr Alan’s previous career involved working in mental health. In his ministry today, he has a particular specialism in bereavement work.

Sheila Cameron, assistant priest

Sheila’s previous career led her to work for many years in schools. Her current ministry includes a link with the chaplaincy of Lewisham hospital.

Robert Stanier, curate.

Being a curate here is Robert’s first job since being ordained in July 2006. His responsibilities here include communications and youth work.

Ottis Edwards, Southwark Pastoral Auxiliary

Ottis has been based at this Church for the last two years. Her career involved extensive periods in social work. She also has a link with the chaplaincy of Lewisham hospital.

Morwenna Orton, Reader-in-training

Morwenna has been training as a reader since 2006. She has a particular interest in ecumenism and her role at this Church includes both work on our worship and our pastoral activities.

+ Perry Hill, St George with Christ Church and St Paul: what’s with the name?

Yes, it’s a bit of a mouthful.

At one stage, there were three different churches. In the 1980s, Christ Church in Forest Hill merged with St Paul’s, the other side of Forest Hill station: hence Christ Church and St Paul.

Then in 2004, they joined together with St George’s, in the Perry Hill end of Forest Hill, thus creating the name we have now.

The congregations moved together into a brand new site, as the old St George’s building had had to be taken down due to subsidence. The old Christ Church site is being redeveloped, mostly as flats, but part of the site, the former chancel, will be maintained as a worship centre.
